A new aparthotel concept is rising in the Aldgate East London neighborhood. The Leman Locke fuses the benefits of an Airbnb rental with the facilities of a boutique hotel. The New York-based Grzywinski + Pons, the design studio behind the Leman Locke, aimed to hold on to the aspirational excitement of a hotel stay while enjoying the benefits of something more close to a home.
The design studio was responsible for designing nearly all of the furniture within the rooms, from the sofas and beds to some of the light fixtures and tables. With everything carefully thought, the reception and the cafe must be mentioned once they are “bifurcated and designed to be distinct from one another and yet congruent in the light, warmth and texture prioritisation” the designers explain.
When it comes the space, the Leman Locke combines a 24-hour gym, a series of meeting rooms, co-working spaces and a cocktail bar. Their instagram friendly rooms feature L-shaped sofa beds, living rooms and a kitchen. The hallways that separate the spaces were transformed into cosy nooks and modern meet-up areas.
“We understand that travellers no longer want just a comfortable night’s stay. They want an experience and to feel a part of a community.” explains Stephen Hanton, CEO of the serviced apartments company behind Leman Locke. The same way, the modern creative traveler is on the lookout for “design-led and convivial atmosphere one often finds in good boutique hotels, mixed with the convenience of an extended stay product” the designers say.
